BRAZIL DAY DC FESTIVAL

Logonew

SEPTEMBER 9, 2012

11:00 AM TO 6:00 PM

FreeCounter

Our goal is to amaze our guests with fabulous Brazilian flavors! This year’s menu features Brazil's most popular comfort foods that will ensure that both Brazilians and Americans alike are wowed by the variety, authenticity, taste and quality of the foods we all crave. Expect to find a vast array of traditional Brazilian Foods such as churrasco, feijoada, pao de queijo, pastel, cochinha, acai and much more.

FlashShows

We are proud to bring on stage some of the most talented Brazilian performers from all around the Greater-Washington region. Their performances will range from the energy-packed Samba and Frevo to the smooth sounds or Jazz and Bossa Nova. Also, featured on and off stage are Brazil’s famous regional dances and the explosive performances and workshops from DC’s All-Women percussion band, Batala. The event's opening ceremony will feature the students (children) of ABRACE performing the Brazilian National Anthem.

FlashKids

Kids will also have a great time at the Kids’HQ, located in a central section of the park. This area is reserved especially for kids, ages 4 to 12, so bring those kids! The Kids'HQ program will provide a safe, fun-filled environment where kids can play and interact while parents enjoy themselves with great food, live shows, vendors and get to meet the beautiful Brazilians people. This year’s Kids’HQ program is being organized and staffed by volunteers from ABRACE.

FlashVendors

The 4.5 sq. mile park will be taken over by vendors and exhibitors of all types. Vendor sites will be located throughout the park from the overlook, reserved for sponsors and partners of the event, to sidewalks and the boardwalk. You will find unique arts and crafts made by talented Brazilian artisans from both Brazil and the US, fashion items, jewelry, bio-jewelry, apparel, accessories, home décor, publications and much more.

FlashRiver

Several relaxing river excursions will leave from the pier next to the park and will cover a picturesque stretch of the Anacostia and Potomac Rivers aboard one of American River Taxi vessels. For a small fee, passengers will enjoy the fantastic views of some of DC’s most recognizable monuments nested along Washington's historic waterfront. No trip to our nation’s capital is complete without a relaxing excursion on the Potomac River.

WHAT IS BRAZIL DAY DC?

Brazil Day DC 2012 is the much awaited annual celebration of our extravagant culture. A sequel to the Inaugural festival of 2011, the 2012 festival promises to be a bigger, better and warmer cultural extravaganza than the year past. This event is powered by the vibrant Brazilian community who is proud to roll up its sleeves and wow visitors with an abundant variety of traditional foods, merchandise, performances and more. Brazil Day DC is certain to emerge as one of the most talked about Brazilian festivals outside of Brazil. Though only in its second year in DC, this festival boasts an empowering mission to bring forth the best of Brazil to Washington, DC. This year, vendors will offer authentic products Brazilians and Brazil lovers are looking for. In addition, by popular demand, visitors will welcome back some of their favorite performers who will once again light up the park with the contagious rhythms and dances of Brazil. Brazil Day DC 2012 is the place to be on Sunday, September 9, 2012.

WHERE IS BRAZIL DAY DC?

The event will take place in one of the most picturesque waterfront destinations in DC - The Yards Park at Capitol Riverfront. This newly constructed park is nested next to the new Nationals Stadium and overlooks the iconic Anacostia river. Bring the entire family and enjoy a day full of rhythms, flavors and styles of Brazil as you relax under a tree and soak in one of the most fascinating cultures on earth.

WHAT'S THE COST?

Admission to the festival is FREE. Most products offered by vendors will be available for purchase. Take this opportunity to network and mingle with other Brazilians from nearby communities and enjoy the performances, exhibits, foods and all else that make Brazil one of the most fascinating cultures on earth.

WHAT'S THE BEST WAY TO GET THERE?

Take the Metro, drive your vehicle or take a water taxi. Whichever way you choose, you are in for an enjoyable fun-filled day with your family and friends. If taking the Metro, the green line will bring you to the Navy Yard station, which is just a couple of blocks away from the park. Follow our flags once you get there. If driving, there are three parking lots to choose from around the park. Water taxis can bring you from numerous surrounding locations in MD, VA and DC. Look up American River Taxi for more details. Come any way you can and party like a Brazilian at Brazil Day DC 2012
